DIVERSITY PROGRAM: This is a program coordinated by our Diversity Advocate. It is intended to broaden the cultural diversity of our membership by providing an inclusive approach and an environment that encourages participation by all current and prospective members.
MEET & GREET PROGRAM: This program is critical to our diversity and networking efforts. Each new member and/or guest is greeted at the entrance near the registration table by a member who serves as an escort. We begin each meeting with a five minute networking session intended for members and guests to become acquainted with someone new.
MEMBERSHIP MENTORING: Provides an excellent opportunity for our senior and/or more experienced members to assist in the development and growth of other association members. A requesting member has the opportunity to choose the mentor from among the members of the association. Contact us if you'd like to have/select a mentor.
HR LEGISLATIVE LIAISON: Creating an increased level of awareness and participation in national, state and local legislative issues while keeping our members informed about legislation that impacts the human resource function.
COLLEGE RELATIONS PROGRAM: We believe that students studying for a degree in human resources can provide interesting new challenges and needed support service through their participation in association events and activities. We have been spearheading our efforts to establish a mutually beneficial relationship with the student chapters in the Chicagoland area.
CERTIFICATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: The Certification Scholarship Program was developed to encourage our members to seek professional certification (PHR or SPHR) by removing or reducing financial barriers that would impede their quest for certification. It is administered by the Education & Certification Committee. The scholarship awards are $300 for the SPHR level and $250 for the PHR level. SUBSTITUTE RULE: Our commitment to each member is that you can always get the advertised information from each meeting since you are allowed to designate a substitute to take your place when you cannot attend a meeting. This commitment was adopted many years ago to ensure that each member is provided an opportunity to maximize their investment in our association.
A side benefit of this procedure is that it allows you to offer a networking growth experience to a member of your staff when the program topic is in their area of responsibility. The exposure and contacts they make at a meeting will help to broaden their knowledge and expand their professional background. Such experiences can only increase their value to you and your organization.
NO SALES PITCHES: Our Bylaws allow only HR practitioners to join our membership. That way, you'll be networking with peers that have the same day-to-day concerns and issues, and not a sales representative interested in selling their services or products.
